Cookie Policy

We run no advertising and no third-party trackers. What remains is a short, honest list: one consent record, one optional analytics cookie, one optional preferences store, and the font files our typefaces are served from.

1. The basics

What cookies and local storage are

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website so that it can recognise your browser on a later visit. Local storage does much the same job but stays on your device until it is cleared and is never transmitted automatically with each request. This Site mostly uses local storage rather than cookies, because it is simpler and sends less data over the network — but the law treats both the same way, and so do we.

Under the EU ePrivacy Directive and the Croatian Electronic Communications Act, we may place strictly necessary items without asking. Everything else requires your prior, informed, freely given consent, which you may withdraw at any time without penalty. That is what the banner at the bottom of the screen is for.

2. Categories

The three groups we use

  • Strictly necessary. Remembering that you have answered the cookie banner, basic session security and load balancing by our host. These cannot be switched off because the Site cannot function correctly without them.
  • Analytics (optional). Anonymised, aggregated statistics about which Croatia guides are read, on what kind of device and how far down the page people get. We do not use these to identify you, build profiles or follow you to other websites.
  • Functional (optional). Remembering interface choices such as your preferred currency, language and any guides you have saved for later.

We use no advertising, remarketing, social media or cross-site tracking cookies whatsoever. There are no embedded Facebook pixels, no ad exchanges and no data brokers.

Cookies and local storage on curiouslanebrowsng.living
cookieConsentStrictly necessary · local storage · 12 months. Records that you have responded to the banner so it is not shown again on every page.
cookieConsentLevelStrictly necessary · local storage · 12 months. Stores which categories you accepted: all, essential only, or a custom combination.
cookieConsentDateStrictly necessary · local storage · 12 months. Timestamps your choice so that we can demonstrate valid consent and re-ask when it expires.
Analytics identifierOptional · set only with consent · 14 months. A rotating, non-personal identifier used to count unique sessions in aggregate. Not shared with any third party for their own purposes.
Functional preferencesOptional · set only with consent · 6 months. Currency, language and saved guides. Stored entirely in your browser.
Hosting session tokenStrictly necessary · session cookie. Set by our hosting provider for load balancing and abuse protection. Expires when you close the browser.
Google FontsThird party · no cookie set. Our Fraunces and Inter typefaces are requested from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. No cookie is placed, but Google necessarily receives your IP address in order to return the font files. See Google’s own privacy notice for details.
Image hostingThird party · no cookie set. Photographs are served from an external image CDN, which receives your IP address as part of the ordinary request for each image.
4. Staying in control

How to change or withdraw consent

  • Use the banner. Open the preferences panel to switch analytics and functional storage on or off individually, then save. Your new choice takes effect immediately.
  • Clear site data. Deleting cookies and local storage for this domain in your browser settings resets everything, and the banner will appear again on your next visit.
  • Block at browser level. Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all allow you to block or limit cookies and storage globally or per site. Doing so will not break this Site, although the banner may reappear on every visit because we cannot record that you answered it.
  • Private browsing. An incognito or private window discards all storage when closed, which is a simple way to browse with no persistence at all.

Refusing optional storage has no effect on the guides themselves. Every page, table, itinerary and photograph remains fully available.

5. Questions

Cookie FAQ

No. Every guide, table and itinerary on the Site is free and fully accessible whatever you choose. The only difference is that we will not be able to remember interface preferences, and the guides you save will not persist between visits.

No. Analytics are processed on our behalf by a privacy-focused provider under a data processing agreement, in aggregate and anonymised form, and are used only to decide which Croatia guides deserve more of our time. Nothing is sold or passed to advertisers.

Either your consent record has reached its 12-month expiry and we are legally required to ask again, or your browser clears site storage on exit — common in private mode or with strict privacy settings enabled.

Write to [email protected] first — we would like the chance to fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP), Selska cesta 136, 10000 Zagreb, or to the supervisory authority where you live.

This policy is reviewed whenever we change the technologies used on the Site, and at least once a year. Related documents: privacy policy and terms of service.
